How to Create EZproxy Links

How to Create EZproxy Links

It is very easy to configure EZproxy links.

  1. Find your EZproxy URL here.
  2. Add the direct link to your resource (database, journal, or article) to the end of the EZproxy URL.
  3. That’s it! The link you created will provide access to the resource both inside and outside of your IP address range.

Example
Let’s say that Millersville wishes to make an direct link for an EBSCO article. Millersville will find the direct link to the article on EBSCO’s website:
http://search.epnet.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=aph&an=21290397&loginpage=login.asp&site=ehost&scope=site
Millersville will append that link to the end of Millersville’s EZproxy URL:
http://navigator-millersville.passhe.edu/login?url=http://search.epnet.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=aph&an=21290397&loginpage=login.asp&site=ehost&scope=site

How to Create EZproxy Links for use in D2L

It is now possible to create EZproxy Links which will bypass the Patron Authentication System authentication prompt when placed in the D2L Learning Management system.

  1. When your patrons click on the link within D2L, they will gain direct access to the resource and they will not be prompted to reauthenticate.
    • If your patrons access the link outside of the D2L system, they will be prompted for their D2L username and password to authenticate.
  2. Find your D2L EZproxy URL on this page.
  3. Add the direct link to your resource (database, journal, or article) to the end of the D2L EZproxy URL.
  4. That’s it! You can post the link you created in D2L. It will provide direct access to the resource both inside and outside of your IP address range.
    • If you test the link and find it does not resolve, this is probably due to D2L’s text editor. To fix the problem, use your link in a normal browser once. This will redirect you to a proxied direct link, which can then be placed into D2L without any problems.

Example
Let’s say that Millersville wishes to make an direct link for an EBSCO article. Millersville will find the direct link to the article on EBSCO’s website:
http://search.epnet.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=aph&an=21290397&loginpage=login.asp&site=ehost&scope=site
Millersville will append that link to the end of Millersville’s Blackboard Ezproxy URL:
http://navigator-millersville.passhe.edu/login?auth=millersville&url=http://search.epnet.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=aph&an=21290397&loginpage=login.asp&site=ehost&scope=site
